The Peacekeeper

"Bodyguard" in a political war zone.
Amira, a young American-educated Muslim woman, and Brad, an American peacekeeping soldier with anti-Muslim prejudices, fight, flee “ethnic-cleansing” Serb militias in the mountain forests of present-day Bosnia. Nonstop action and suspense – mixed-culture romance. Amira twice passes herself off as a Serb, once posing as a militia member and mingling with her potential rapists and murderers. Desa, the daughter of a militia leader, tries to help Amira and Brad reach American rescuers. High finisher in two important screenwriting competitions.

NOTE: Violence throughout, although not graphic. Some nudity, sexual situations. While the most offensive word is absent, the villains speak crudely throughout. Threat of rape and torture.

Excellent story and dialog in the script makes you want to see this movie produced. Extremely gutsy in that the Muslims are the heros and the Christians the villians. May not be credible, but perhaps makes teh point that soldiers in Iraq and the 'sans are defending all people.

"Ethnic cleansing" Christians may be hard to swallow, but this is a tamer story than those peacekeepers and survivors of "The Balkans Holocuast" told me. Inspired by the true story of young Muslim/Christian lovers killed by a Serbian sniper as the fled Sarajevo, I set the story years later when the peacekeepers were in control and an upbeat ending was plausible.

I find the script The Peacemaker a very moving story that I would love to watch on the screen. It is about a tragic conflict that few people even in Europe know much about and I think a lot of people would like to know more and to understand it better. I do not think Christians around the world are going to identify themselves with the aggressors - after all, most of the German aggressors of WW2 were probably Christians once upon a time.

The recent capture of top war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic (what a perfect first name) makes this the ideal time to film such a movie. The controversy surrounding his capture and upcoming trial in Switzerland will keep the attempt to "ethnically cleanse" Bosnia of Muslims in the hedlines for a year or longer.
